Sometimes a plan starts one way and ends up in a different world! For Addison Bliss, Alex Merrell, Eric Rosell and Jarred Donalson that rings so very true with the founding of PH Coffee.
Opened in 2019 in the Historic Northeast KC neighborhood of Pendleton Heights, PH Coffee strives to bring people together. It isn’t just about having a cup o’ joe, but the experience of true community and uniting the neighborhood and thereby, the city. With the inclusion of an area for children, they have allowed parents back into the fold of coffee shop lovers. The children’s area is full of sound, activity, light and fun. You can read more about this design in Barista Magazine.
However, this journey didn’t start out with the coffee shop in mind. The founders were working on the building rehab project when they learned what the owners had hoped for the building. A coffee shop – and these four entrepreneurs took on the challenge.
The process was not always smooth, but the group learned to roll with the tide. That included a cancelled credit card (at exactly the wrong time) and the need for capital invested from the partners. Thrifty shopping skills also helped keep start-up costs low.
Partner, Eric Rosell took NEW Venture in mid-2018 with Rebecca Gubbels and Joel Barrett. After class, he continued to work with Joel through business coaching sessions.
“SBDC helped our business by providing the road map on how to develop a solid business plan. We were able to use the knowledge that Eric gained in class to come equipped and ready.”
